Differential Games and Queueing Network Control
نویسنده
چکیده
Fluid models of queueing networks are important for the development of optimal service strategies. Nonnegativity constraints on the state variables lead to discontinuous dynamics, often modeled using the “Skorokhod problem” formulation. These dynamics in a classical robust L2-gain control formulation lead to a differential game with some unusual features. In simple examples the differential game can be solved semi-explicitly. One or more such examples will be described in which the Skorokhod dynamics influence the optimal service strategy.

In this paper, multi-class dynamic PERT network is considered as a queueing network, where the projects are similar and new projects are generated according to a Poisson process. Each activity is performed independently in its corresponding service station with exponential distribution by one server from several servers settled in service station based on FCFS (Fist Come, First Served) discipli...
متن کاملAn Escape-Time Criterion for Queueing Networks: Asymptotic Risk-Sensitive Control via Differential Games
We consider the problem of risk-sensitive control of a stochastic network. In controlling such a network, an escape time criterion can be useful if one wishes to regulate the occurrence of large buffers and buffer overflow. In this paper a risk-sensitive escape time criterion is formulated, which in comparison to the ordinary escape time criteria penalizes exits which occur on short time interv...
متن کاملDynamic Importance Sampling for Queueing Networks
Importance sampling is a technique that is commonly used to speed up Monte Carlo simulation of rare events. However, little is known regarding the design of efficient importance sampling algorithms in the context of queueing networks. The standard approach, which simulates the system using an a priori fixed change of measure suggested by large deviation analysis, has been shown to fail in even ...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...
متن کاملCapacity planning in the hospital queueing network with blocking: simulation-based optimization approach
Introduction: Hospital administrators have always faced the challenge of providing the best possible health services in a resource-limited environment. The patient flow throughout the hospital is affected by lack of the capacities that can lead to bed-blocking among the hospital units. In this research, the patient flow in the hospital is modeled as an open queueing network with blocking. Then,...
